24th Dec 2014: Port Klang Authority (PKA) have announced that effective 1st Jan 2015, a new mode of Inter Terminal Transfer (ITT) will be in place, in collaboration with QEL / LKC.

Container transfer between the 2 terminals in Port Klang, Westport and Northport, can now be done via sea, in addition to the current ITT mode via road and rail.

Following successful pilot runs on 6th December 2014 and 22nd December 2014, QEL / LKC will commence a regular 4 sailings per week between the terminals. In addition, QEL / LKC will provide another ITT run via its Pekan Baru – Port Klang service, making it a total 20 sailings per month between the 2 terminals.

In its circular, PKA emphasised that the ITT services are intended to complement the existing road and rail ITT services. Final decision is remains with the 1st carrier. ITT by sea will currently be limited to standard general purpose containers only. Out of gauge and uncontainerised cargo may be considered if agreed by all related parties and with all safety requirements adhered to.
